2006 - Jesmond - Djr & Dad @ Rest

Photo was taken by Alex, who showed them to me sometime after the event.

This was the moment I left the house and walked up the drive to see my Dad's coffin.

This was Dad's final time outside his home before the procession began to the crematorium.

I'll never forget this journey for as long as I live; sitting up front with a clear view of the hearse for the entire drive there.

2006 - Newcastle - Goodbye Dad

That's the back of my head; Dad's coffin is lying where Ciaran, Alex and myself placed it, along with a portrait of Dad; to my right is my sister, reading a tribute to him...I was really proud of her. .

2006 - Jesmond - Ciaran

Dad's Wake. The photo on the left-side background is the picture placed on Dad's coffin during the service. It was lovely to be able to look at it during the tributes, and during Moonlight Serenade. Ciaran caused a stir after he vanished for a while during the wake... then a young woman went upstairs to find the toilet, walked into a dark room, the wrong room, turned on a light and screamed when confronted by Ciaran sprawled out across a bed like a dead man. He'd been out the night before and it was all catching up on him. Lucille then came upstairs, and unaware of the sage taking place in her bedroom walked in... and screamed ... heheheeh. Ciaran, bless him, slept through all of this quite blissfully.

Dad's Wake. Like Ciaran, Alex also grew up in the same street as me. Next door, in fact. Sadly we've not seen or heard from each other in 6 years. But I was deeply touched he came up for the funeral.

Ciaran always described Alex as "the tall good looking one". A true statement. He's also doing very well as a photographer; recently got married in Las Vegas to an Elvis priest; and has now started lobbying on the political level in his local community... a possible future path for the man? Watch this space.

Dad's Wake. Before the funeral service, AKR spent time putting the large photos of Dad's life up on the walls. These are the same photos AKR had made earlier this year when Dad went into hospital, and she put them up around the walls of his room to keep his mind focussed on who he was. This was my first wake...I liked the way the emotions changed from sadness to celebration. It was fantastic to see so many faces... some of them from the far past, all here smiling and laughing and talking. The noise of conversation at one point was so loud I retreated to Dad's room to chill out.

Dad's Wake. My sister did Dad proud. All the effort she's put in, plus holding her emotions together long enough to read a beautiful tribute during the service.
