2004 - Wales - Ben & Rachel

July: My 2nd wedding - normally I refuse to go to them, but this was special. Rachel is part of the old Gang (Simon et al from '94 onwards) and Ben is the man she met in Vietnam, and who Oj and I stayed with on our arrival in Aukland NZ. Cool couple. And cool people as individuals. Looking forward to them both moving back into this hemisphere and being closer at hand.

2004 - Newcastle

July: I was able to take another trip to Newcastle - thanks to the ability to 'work from home'. The builders were making progress with the demolition of old parts of the house to be included in the extension.

Dad had been in a care-home for a month now; he was doing okay but he kept asking when he could come home. It was a difficult situation...

2004 - Glasgow- mum

July: Squirt's been in Glasgow since 2000 and it was time for her to graduate. At first I was reluctant to go up there because of my terrible time in Glasgow in Spring 2001.

My sister really wanted Dad to come up with us, but the practicality of him being in a wheelchair, and his health, and massive weight gain, made it impossible. I think Mum felt guilty about leaving Dad behind...
