David J Rodger ¦ Secret Window

- Near Fauske (Arctic Circle) - Grandfather Not long after the Nazi occupation of Norway ended. 25 years before I was born. This is 200 miles North of the Arctic Circle. The forest up here is ancient and immense. I've strong memories of being a child, spending time out here and being happy. Later, in my teenage years, possibly because of my immersion in horror stories and films, the forest became a haven for all the nightmarish concepts of my imagination.

- Dad, Aunt Cathlene My Dad was the youngest in a family of two sisters and a brother, with parents who were fresh out of Scotland. He grew up in Tynemouth, in the North East of England, and eventually settled in Newcastle. His father ran a well-known and well respected accountancy firm, and my dad went on to establish his own, which became equally well known (locally) and respected.

's - Fauske - Norway This is the view from my mum's family kitchen when she was growing up.

- Mum My mum was the youngest in a family of two sisters and a brother. They were all well established arctic stock; the town was prosperous from mining the high quality marble in the mountains nearby, marble that has been used in the White House and in the Vatican. |

- Polar Circle - Mum 3 Weeks after my dad met my mother in Tynemouth, they were driving to the polar circle to meet my mum's family, and get married.
